GREEN HAIR CLIP: QUICK WAY TO BREED HERE

At the end of May I propagate honeysuckle and sea buckthorn with green cuttings.

PREPARING THE HAIR SCISSORS …

I cut them with a sharp knife from shoots on last year’s young shoots (slightly woody, but still green): honeysuckle cuttings – with 2-3 internodes, sea-buckthorn – with 5-8. I make the lower cut obliquely under the kidney, the upper – straight 2-3 cm above the upper kidney. I remove the bottom pair of leaves (I remove 3-5 leaves from sea buckthorn seedlings). I cut the left one in half to reduce moisture evaporation. The procedure is performed in the morning or in the evening when it is cool. And then before planting, I put the seedlings in a container of water.

… AND THE SEAT

You need to root the cuttings in the greenhouse, which you equipped with a sunlit area from improvised materials (fastened the film to the pegs 15-20 cm high).

A nutritious substrate can be prepared from equal parts of turf soil, sand and peat by pouring medium-grained sand (3-5 cm) on top. But I buy a ready-made peat-sand substrate and make a high bed (up to 20 cm).

Before planting, for better rooting, the cuttings are dipped a third in a heteroauxin solution for 10-12 hours.

Rooting harvest clippings

I plant honeysuckle vertically, deepening it by one bud. Sea buckthorn seedlings – sloping, deepening

to the upper leaves. I compact the soil, water it well. The distance between the seedlings in a row is 10-15 cm, between the rows – up to 20 cm. At first, I shade the greenhouse from the scorching sun.

Throughout the rooting period (2-3 weeks), I keep the substrate moist, spray the cuttings from the sprayer several times a day.

Once the bud growth has started, it means that the roots are already firmly anchored in the soil. Then I reduce watering. At the same time, I ventilate the greenhouse. A week after planting, I feed the plants with a solution of complex mineral fertilizer (40-50 g per 10 l of water).

After rooting (by the end of the third week), I begin to gradually remove the shelter, gradually increasing the time the plants stay in the air every day. And in the fall of this year (at the end of September) I transplant the grown seedlings to a permanent place.

In addition to sea buckthorn and honeysuckle, it is easily multiplied simultaneously by green cuttings of black and red currant, chokeberry (chokeberry), lemongrass, raspberry, blackberry, cotoneaster.
